Martin Ahearne was the first Newport representative to win an All Ireland medal, when he helped Tipperary to win the Junior Hurling title of 1924.
The Munster Final was played in Dungarvan on 25th August, but the All Ireland Final was not played until 31st August 1925 when Tipp defeated Galway by 5-5 to 1-2.
