Location

The town of Newport is situated in Co. Tipperary, close to the county’s western boundary with Co. Limerick, and about 10 miles east of Limerick City. 

Newport parish comprises the ecclesiastical districts of Newport, Birdhill and Toor and extends from the foothills of Keeper Hill to the river Shannon encompassing a varied landscape of mountain, bog, wood and pasture.

The headquarters of Newport G.A.A. Club are located on the Thurles Road (R503) less than a kilometre from the town centre and bear the name Páirc Chuimneacháin Pádraig Ui Riain, in memory of Paddy Ryan Lacken, a noted freedom fighter from the locality.
