Junior ‘B’: Newport overcame Burgess in the last game of the round robin at Lacken Park on Thursday last. There was little between the sides in the first half, with the home side leading 0-9 to 0-7 at the interval. There was stalemate for the early part of the second half, with no scores registered over a 10 minute period, but many wides, especially from Burgess. The deadlock was broken midway through the half when the decisive score came – a goal pushed over the line by Emmet Floyd following a goalmouth scramble. Newport went on to add the points for a convincing victory, with the final score standing at Newport 1-16 Burgess 0-10. Damien O’Brien, Darragh Meaney and Andrew Hickey were most prominent in defence, while Stephen Coffey (0-7, 5f), Callum Poole (0-3) and James Moloney (0-3) were the leading marksmen. Newport now advance to the Quarter Final.
