Peil na nÓg
The club had two teams participating in Peil na nÓg at the weekend. Both teams played their Group matches on Saturday. The first team, playing in Division 1, travelled to Boherlahan where they recorded wins over Clonmel Commercials, Boherlahan Dualla & Rockwell Rovers. They qualified for the semi-final where they had a good win over Nenagh Eire Óg and qualified for the final v Cashel King Cormacks which was played in Morris Park on Easter Monday. It was a tense, closely-fought, low-scoring final. The sides were level at 0-3 each at the interval and a determined Newport outfit fought valiantly to finish 2 points in front (0-7 to 0-5). This win will see Newport travelling to Derry in June to represent Tipperary in the National Finals, emulating a feat previously recorded in 1998 when the Newport team travelled to Donegal.
The second team playing in Division 7 in Nenagh had wins over Boherlahan Dualla, Durlas Óg , Nenagh Eire Óg & Clonmel Óg. They qualified for the semi-final, defeating Carrick Davins on Easter Monday. Unfortunately, they had no answer to a strong Newcastle side in the final. Well done to the boys on a great run.
